Experience the heart-warming and comical charm of The Elixir of Love, one of opera's most beloved works. In this enchanting Wiener Staatsoper production, directed by the legendary Otto Schenk, young and penniless Nemorino sacrifices everything to win the beautiful Adina’s affection with a magical love elixir.
Schenk and set designer Jürgen Rose bring a vibrant Mediterranean village to life with meticulous detail and warm, southern light. Bogdan Volkov shines as Nemorino, especially in his iconic aria "Una furtiva lacrima," while Maria Nazarova captivates as Adina with her crystal-clear soprano and sparkling coloratura. This production masterfully balances humor and romance, making it a must-see spectacle.

Hoffman, the romantic writer, is full of imaginative love stories, including the story of the doll Olympia, the singer Antonia and the prostitute Julieta. Do his loved ones disturb the muse? Or do they feed the creativity of the tormented writer? Offenbach's music in this work moves on the axis between "serious" opera and amusing and parodic operetta. Director Miriam Clemont has been commissioned to direct the flagship production of the Salzburg Festival for 2024.
Mark Minkowski conducts a gallery of wonderful singers and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
